Today just sucks! (Pardon the expression)

Pardon the expression but some days just suck and this is one of them for sure! Yesterday we took Tehya back to the oncologist for her two week check up. We mentioned that she had cracked her nail which appeared to be healing nicely but luckily another Golden in the waiting room stepped on it and it started to bleed. I say luckily because we probably wouldn’t even have mentioned it if it wasn’t bleeding. The oncologist said she didn’t like the looks of it as it had cracked at the top and the tissue looked very abnormal. To make a long story short we have three options, biopsy the tissue to see what it is, amputate the toe or treat it with epsom salts and antibiotics in the unlikelhood it isn’t the cancer showing up (which by the way the oncologist and surgeon are pretty sure it is). We have opted for the latter and took Tehya today to our regular Vet so he could have a look at it for a starting point for him. After checking her out he basically told us to take her home and enjoy what little time we have left with her. We have been the best pawrents we could to her and to cut her up by amputating her toe is just fighting a losing battle. So that’s what we are going to do enjoy every last minute we can with our precious Tehya (that’s what her name means by the way). She doesn’t seem to be in pain and her tail is still wagging like crazy probably will until the day she dies. Needing all the hugs I can possibly get today!

These days when reality slaps us in the face really do SUCK- no need to appologize.
You guys continue to be the best parents because you are putting Tehya’s quality of life first.
Keep an eye on that wagging tail and know that Tehya is loving every day she has, and remember also that to her today is all there is. So for her if today is good then life is good!
Sending strong positive thoughts and lots of hugs.

I can’t put it any better than Karen already did. Just know that Tehya and all of her family are in my thoughts. We made the same decision with Max. When that last chemo blast (a very aggressive protocol) did not shrink or regress the tumors, the doctors told us there was nothing left to do. At that point, we said That’s okay, no more options left, so Max is going to just be a dog for whatever time he has left. We had another great month with him after that. Treasure everyday with your girl and make some more great memories for yourselves. Give the girl an extra special treat tonight, and a hug from me.

Karen and Max’s mom said it all, and far better than I can. Please know we’re here for you, with you. Teyha’s tail is still wagging, so enjoy each day with her. We are keeping you in our hearts. And we’re hoping for the best for Tehya.

Our jobs as pawrents is to make our fur babies as happy as they can be for as long as we can. You are doing that for Tehya, and because of that, you are super humans 🙂 and she is a super doggie 🙂 We are sending our love!!!!

Darlene – We were so hoping that you’d get better news – it really does suck (excuse my expression) the big one! Nothing else can describe it. Let us know how she does – we will be saying lots of prayers for you and sweet Tehya. Sending you tons of love and hugs from across the border. xoxo Kami

It does just suck. No need to apologize. As you said, “luckily” the other dog stepped on her foot….”luckily” you learned what was going on so you’ll be totally aware of her and her wagging tail, more than you might have been otherwise. I hope you can do what Maximutt’s mom said and make lots of great memories.
    Sending hugs

Once again the people on this website have come through big time. Thank you so much for the support and the hugs! We are taking one day at a time and enjoying every tail wag we can!

  15.   Mackenzie's Mom Says:

Ok Teyha – today was probably a pretty good day for you and your pawrents – winning the gold medal for your outstanding hockey team! Congratulations!! I bet your pawrents were really yelling at the TV during this game. You must have shown your goalie those tricks we talked about. You did good by the team Tehya!!! Yea!!

  16.   Tehya's Mom Says:

Hi Mackenzie yes it was a great day for Canada that’s for sure! It was nice that Louie listenned to my tips. However your goalie was amazing and it was very sad to watch him after it was all over. It is really too bad that they couldn’t have two gold medals!

  17.   Carmen (Catie's Mom) Says:

So sorry to read about Teyha’s news, Darlene. That just does so totally suck.

Catie sends lots of licks (because that’s what she does) and Riley some rallying barks (because he’s too macho for kisses).

  18.   Hopalong Harley Says:

This more than sucks. My heart is broken for you. After I read your post, I sat petting Harley telling him about Tehya’s newest battle and cried … as there aren’t many of us here with this type of cancer. I’m so glad Tehya doesn’t seem to be in pain, which is the main thing. They are amazing, aren’t they? They truly become a part of your family … so much more than “just a dog”. Enjoy every last minute you have … I know you will! And may those minutes be many!!! Wish I could give you a real hug!!

    Cancer sucks.

    Keep wagging that tail, Tehya!!

    -Gwen & Harley

Thank you Gwen I knew that this news would upset you as well as Harley and Tehya have the same cancer. Thanks so much for the hugs and support!
